Dear citizens, you asked for it, you have it! It is no longer possible to upload animated gifs to contests, except the dedicated "Animated GIF" contest. You can decide how often there is one by voting the theme under "Vote for contest themes". The animations already uploaded will remain valid. On a different note, the photography contests have been axed due to very low participation and interest.
