Scoring ratio

Discuss the voting system, propose new ideas

Just wondering can someone explain the reasoning behind not getting a full 1.0 scoring ratio if you don't get at least 75% of the average votes cast in a comp ? In the Sept. Day 2 Night I ended up with a scoring ratio of .737 because I only got 7 votes to 10 for the other contestants. This gave me a score of 42.641 instead of 57.857.I mean I entered a day late but at least I made an effort to participate.I can't obligate other members that didn't enter in the comp to be sure to vote for all the entries before the comp ends and I mean I can't really blame those 3 people that didn't vote for my entry ... likewise why penalize the author.IMO this rule discourages members to participate too much later after the contest starts and penalizes people that may enter late for no fault of their own, just maybe because one is busy with other things.Isn't it better to at least encourage more participation by maybe doing away with this rule or at least reducing the % to somethging more reasonable, especially in the light of the low participation lately.

ok Gumboat I agree with democracy but this is different,in this case the reasons for not getting the adequate number of votes to get a 1.0 ratio has nothing to do with the quality of the work but with the fact that because it enters late the members that vote early don't go back and vote for the late entries before the comp ends,be it because they are busy with their life, because they only vote early as a habit or what have you...do you get my drift

the penalty is in place mainly to discourage cheating by posting late entries, i know it's a remote possibility but everything has to be taken into consideration. Try posting earlier! You have a month's worth of contests in which you can prepost.

I try to do a chop a day if possible also I don't often look ahead at the calandrer I usually look at the chop the same morning of the comp and go for it, so if I put a lot of time into it I usually miss the opening bell... I guess if the comp is into it's second day I just wont bother... and don't quite understand the bit about cheating by posting late ? but I guess rules is rules
