I get frustrated at the the pop ups for previous entries when looking at submissions as they block the view. It is hard to take in the whole picture and sometimes even hard to find the vote button and what I am writing in the comments. Can anything be done about it?

I agree, Wedoo2. The previews are annoying. I'd prefer a semitransparent arrow link to the next image. But have found no user option.

I found changing the zoom on on your web browser helps. The Firefox browser set at 80% zoom will clear the preview thumbs to the side, but drops the entry info to the bottom of the table. IMO, 80% zoom makes the text size a bit too small.
This method does work best in the Internet Explorer. A customized zoom setting set at 82% pushes the preview windows to the side and leaves the entry info at the top of the table for me.
Ctrl.++ or Ctrl+- will resize your browser on the fly.
